What was the goal?

Custom WordPress: Bay Area Surf Cup – West Coast Youth Cup with a Distinct Identity

Bay Area Surf Cup runs alongside ESS Cup as the second flagship event in the same tournament group. The brief was to build a site that felt distinctly West Coast — different palette, different typography, different mood — without rebuilding the underlying theme. The same custom WordPress platform powering ESS Cup was rebranded via Theme Options to deliver a wholly different experience.

Technologies Used

  • WordPress with the shared Elev8 group classic theme
  • ACF Pro for content and Theme Options for brand variables
  • SCSS with design tokens overridden per-site

Key Features

  • Hero with image, slideshow, or video — same engine as ESS Cup, distinct content
  • Tournament info, age groups, sponsors, and registration flow
  • Light / dark mode with a West Coast colour palette
  • Sibling site to ESS Cup, Elev8 Football, and Retain Players
  • Updates ship across all four sites from the same codebase

Proof that the underlying theme can serve completely different brands without compromise — same fast, well-architected codebase, completely different visual identity, all editable from the WP Admin.
