What was the goal?

Lightweight Custom Site with Live Metal Pricing

Southard Salvage is a family-owned scrap metal yard in Rockaway, NJ. They needed a site that loaded instantly on truck-driver phones, displayed today’s metal prices without a manual update, and made it obvious how to get to the yard and bring scrap in. WordPress was the wrong tool for the job — the priorities were speed, simplicity, and a price list that could be updated from a single source.

Technologies Used

  • Vanilla HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (no framework, no bloat)
  • Custom JSON price feed with localStorage caching and graceful fallback
  • Theme-aware light / dark mode with system-preference detection
  • Responsive mobile-first layout built for on-the-go customers

Key Features

  • Live metal price list pulled from a single editable JSON source
  • Smart caching so the site stays usable even when the API is unreachable
  • Service area page targeting Rockaway and Morris County, NJ
  • Click-to-call and SMS-friendly phone CTAs for drivers and walk-ins
  • Embedded Facebook and Instagram links for social proof
  • Sub-1-second load time on mobile
